The Story of Sunshine Cozy Cottages Motel
These lovely, quaint cottages complete with their old-fashioned porches may seem to be from another era; that's because they are.  The 14 cottages that comprise Sunshine Cozy Cottages date back to pre-WW II, ca. 1930.
Originally built at MacDill Air force Base as officer’s quarters, the cottages remained on the military base through the 2nd World War and were eventually brought down to Indian Rocks Beach by barge around 1945. The cottages, originally named "Coral Beach Court", became one of the first resorts on the beach and today remains one of the few original properties that started the Gulf Beach trend.

During the 1950s Arthur Godfrey broadcast his radio show from the cottages and many big band era personalities such as the Andrews Sisters would stay there.  Many years later a two lane road was built between Sunshine Cozy Cottages and the beach.  These days you can still view the gulf from the private porch of several of the cottages while having the security of your children not having immediate access to the water.

These cozy, yet spacious cottages each have 1 or 2 bedrooms, living room, bath and full kitchen stocked with utensils, pots, pans and dishes.  They also come with linens and towels and there is an on-site laundry.
By taking that 30-second walk to the beach you can save a lot of money to spend on things other than your accommodations. And for those couples that have dreamed about having a beach wedding, what could be better than having your wedding party and friends all staying in their own cottages, next to each other?  This is an affordable reality at Sunshine Cozy Cottages.
About Indian Rocks Beach
Known as “Florida’s Safest Beach”.

Indian Rocks Beach reputedly got its name from the pilgrimage of Indians who came to the area to bathe and drink the healing waters from the springs.  These same artesian wells still run under the ground of Sunshine Cozy Cottages.
Legend has it that the land is protected by Indian spirits and that is why the beach is known as Florida’s safest beach.

Here at Indian Rocks Beach you can laze the days away on miles of pristine beach or make use of the numerous parks and recreational facilities.  There are tennis courts, basketball courts, a leash-free dog park, a ball field and a state of the art skateboard park.  There are numerous family-oriented events and festivals throughout the year, such as the Fall Arts Festival and “Beauty & the Beach”.

In this quaint seaside resort community of only about 4,000 permanent residents, you will find dozens of shops, restaurants and fun things to see and do.  It is a resort town where family fun mingles with the mellow leisure of a peaceful sea side vacation that soothes your senses.

Disney World is less than a two-hour drive and Clearwater, Tampa and St. Petersburg are even closer should you want to visit Busch Gardens, the Dali Museum, or any one of our many local attractions while staying at our inexpensive Sushine Cozy Cottage Motel -- "your home away from home."
